I’ve understood why so many people in the world hate Donald Trump.
When they look at Trump, they see a crazy person they can’t seem to understand. He changes his mind every day, holds extreme positions, has a big ego and thin skin, and threatens everyone around him.
Nothing about Trump seems lovable to them. They see a horrible monster.
As much as they may think they are rational, people who hate Trump are actually visceral thinkers, and their reaction to Trump is visceral.
Most people in the world are not alphas. Alphas, by design, have always been in short supply. So when most people see someone like Trump, they see a bully. And most people have an aversion to, and even a hatred of, bullies.
That reaction is not entirely wrong. At some level, it is understandable because bullies are not necessarily good people. A bully cannot be rational, because if a person were rational, that person would also be reasonable.
But in the real world, especially in the world of persuasion and power, being rational and reasonable is a losing position.
When holding the position of commander-in-chief of the most powerful country in the world, one cannot afford a weak negotiating position. Power does not respond to politeness. Power responds to greater power.
Bullies have a place, and the position Trump holds is exactly that place.
All the qualities of Trump that people see as negative—“stupidity,” irrationality, craziness, and a big ego—are actually positive in that context. These are the very qualities required for someone in that position. These are not bugs. These are features.
You think you’re smart because you can tell Trump is crazy. What you don’t realize is that Trump wants you to think he is crazy. You think he is stupid because he does not know what he wants one day from the next. But you don’t realize that that is exactly what he wants you to think about him.
In geopolitics, a country needs a leader who is not only a bully but someone who makes other bullies shit their pants. A leader who creates uncertainty. A leader who is unpredictable enough that opponents hesitate. Trump is that person. He is the alpha of alphas.
And because most people have a visceral dislike of, and even jealousy toward, alphas, that is why so many people hate him.
With this understanding, people should introspect. And if one is truly rational, then upon introspection with this knowledge, one will come to understand this perspective about Trump.
